New Orleans does have a shop but I am not sure how well they are equipped to deal with wheel problems in a 12 hour window. I am sure that they have a jack to lift one end of a car to replace an axle/wheel, but am not sure what their spare serviceable wheel/axle inventory is or was on that given day.
If their inventory was zero, then just another example of skimping on spare parts by management. Wheels are always needed. NOL probably sees ~ 120 - 150 inbound wheels in a day on cars and locos.

I would be surprised if that was the reason for not fixing it. But when one is on a crusade I suppose any cause will do :D
 
19 hit a vehicle east of Greenville, SC no reported injuries. Train went to Greenville and is waiting for rested crew. Delay probably due to crew unable to make ATL. So stopped at Greenville for new crew from CLT as only location for new crew.
