    Superliner vs. Viewliner Bedroom

I've done both many times and prefer the Viewliner roomette a lot more. The double windows so you can sleep up top and get a view plus leave the lower area set up for reading etc.. More luggage space. A private sink even if you don't like the toilet, which is VERY convenient in the middle of the...

    Let it go already. Geez.....

    competitive rates

Amtrak coach is usually pretty competitive with airline fares. You can't compare sleeper fares, it's simply in another class of travel IMO. And comparing the time factor - well duh - it's a train versus a plane, come on. Only in a few cases is it going to be competitive time wise, like in...

    Buying sleeper onboard....

I too have found them less than responsive the couple of times I asked. Now I always make sure I have a room booked ahead of time. Although when I went round trip cross country last year I remember hearing announcements a couple of times throughout the train that rooms were available for...

Petition to move "I Ride Greyhound too" back

The Amtrak route system is so skeletal that it would be a huge improvement to have coordinated intercity bus connections. Not that I expect it to happen.

    roomette prices online

I've had that happen when trying to book two roomettes. It will give you one price but when you go to book, the price jumps way higher for both roomettes. I noticed if I changed it to one roomette I got the lower price. So obviously even though you put in two roomettes and it gives you the low...

Three hours to stock, clean, fuel etc. a long distance train? I don't know.

    Florida Restructuring

I agree that instead of the HSR, Florida should push for funding to get the current lines upgraded for faster speeds and more frequent service. I think they would do well if they got dedicated trains running between Miami-Tampa-Orlando-Jacksonville on more frequent service. As far as somebody...

    Low or High Buckets

Remember how limited the bedrooms are. There's probably only a couple at the low bucket.

    coast starlight lower level view???

A bit more track noise, but less traffic noise from the hallways IMO. I like the lower level, feels more private.

NHV to PGH: Where to change trains?

That's exactly what I was going to post. I don't know if that train is crowded out of NYP, but it's always nice to get on at the embarking station and have your pick of seats.

    coast starlight lower level view???

The family bedroom has windows on both sides of the train which is a great advantage IMO. The views are fine from the lower level.

CONO crew pulled out of service ????

They announced the operating crew was being replaced for a rules infraction. I think that's pretty much telling you what's going on.

Only 12 hours ride alone. Should I get the roomette?

Get the roomette. Meals are included and you get to use the PPC, plus you can get some privacy in your room and take a nap if you want etc. It's such a different experience riding in sleeper versus riding in coach IMO. Even for a day trip.

    Coffee on Silver Service

Yup, the coffee machine wasn't working in my sleeper in November when I rode the Meteor. I just went into the next sleeper to get a cup. No problem with the attendant.

    Amtrak Crescent Running Heritage Equipment-video

I'm thinking it was 1994 probably when I rode the Crescent with the Viewliner diner. Could be wrong. As far as the Heritage diners I kind of like the refurbed interiors just before the later Timoinsa ones. I'm not crazy about the pink colors. I do like the ceilings though.

    Amtrak Crescent Running Heritage Equipment-video

Yup. I've eaten in that Viewliner diner. I think it was on the Crescent quite a while back. The Heritage Diners have been nicely refurbished at least on the inside. I'm sure the reliability's not a strong point though considering their age.

    FOX's O'Reilly on AMTRAK

Not when you present yourself as a legitimate news channel. FOX news is just a Republican propaganda channel, which is fine, but let's not pretend it's anything else. And who cares about MSNBC as it relates to Amtrak. They haven't said anything about it while O'Reilly (he of the sexual...

    FOX's O'Reilly on AMTRAK

O'Reilly's just an entertainer. People listen to him like he really has a clue.
